I will put in the work to give you the best possible defense, employing aggressive negotiation, pre-trial tactics, thoughtful investigation, and a nuanced understanding of the OCGA Criminal Code. I provide personalized service, constant updates, and always have streams of direct communication available to my clients. Practicing in all Georgia State Courts.
I graduated from the University of Georgia Law School, where I served as a court clerk for Chief Judge Patrick Haggard of the Athens-Clarke Superior Court and practiced as a legal intern with the Athens Public Defender for two years. Before opening my firm, I worked at the Public Defender's offices of Lee County, FL, Augusta, GA, and Athens, GA.
My Story My engagement with the criminal justice system began during my sophomore year at Sewanee University, when I interned at the Birmingham law firm Wiggins-Childs LLC. My work involved developing a class action lawsuit against a multi-million dollar privatized probation company that operated in over 100 municipalities throughout the state, as well as throughout the Southeast. One judge later found that the company's monitoring practices amounted to a "judicially sanctioned extortion racket" or "debtor's prison," which "repeatedly violated the Constitutional rights of defendants."
I saw firsthand how one private probation company profited by forcing thousands of financially vulnerable citizens into an inescapable cycle of mounting fines, arrest for non-payment, and consequent difficulty maintaining steady employment and even housing. The company was listed as one of Inc.'s "fastest growing companies" in the United States from 2008-2010, but legal actions and public scrutiny forced dozens of municipalities across Alabama to end their contracts, and in 2015 the company withdrew from the state entirely.
Learning that the justice system could turn a blind eye to such a pervasive violations of rights - until directly challenged - I knew that my future would be in protecting people whose lives were being jeopardized by criminal charges.
Trust me to protect you and give your case the attention it deserves.
